Default ML Subwoofer Question

Quick question for anyone having the same problem or knows how to solve it. It seems like a lot of the time the sub on the rear deck is rattling the mesh/plastic cover that is over it and it bugs me to no end. Is there anyway to dampen this? I was going to give it a go but if I'm right, you have to take out the whole backseat to get the cover off. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Is there anybody.......out there.....

Going by pictures it does seem you have to remove a bunch of stuff to get the sub out. Plastic and low frequencies don't mix mesh needs to be metal. I know that doesn't help you.

Removing the back seat top and bottom takes about 5 minutes tops. Best of all, yours won't be covered in your kid's puke when you do it.

I just took a peek at it, and there's no practical way to take out the package shelf without removing the seats. The FSM says seats, garnish, and half the rest of the rear of the car, but it looks a whole lot like you just need the seat back out of the way, pry up on the front edge, then pull forward to get the shelf cover off.

Speaking of FSM....where does one pick that up? I have all of the FSMs for my Supra and Land Cruiser, but can't locate them for the GS-F. Is it online only?

Yes. https://techinfo.toyota.com. It gives you access to everything Scion/Toyota/Lexus since 1990 as well as technical training specific to these lines. The basic subscription gives you all the tech data. The professional subscription gets access to Techstream as well. I've had a professional subscription for a while now, but I have three cars all benefiting from it. I do all the work on my cars except body work because I just don't have the eye for body work.

I may just take the grill off so the sub doesn't rattle it. Any other suggestions?

Mine doesn't rattle, buzz, or hum. Something is wrong with yours if it's making noise.

Blackmill deep enough?

Just to be sure, I put on Let it Be with the volume at 60. No buzz, no hum, just music. You can definitely feel the drivers working. Lots of air movement at that volume.

I listen to all types of music (except country) It mostly happens when I am listening to hip hop with that super low end bass.

Blackmill is Dub. Super powerful bass. If mine were going to have harmonic resonance, Blackmill would bring it out for sure. You need to find out what exactly is loose and get it secured. You might have a defective cover or someone dropped something on the driver during assembly.

Yea i got in the back seat again and it definatly when the sub pushes hard its making the mesh/grill surround flex and it making that noise. I just need to find a way to fix it.

What song are you playing and at what volume? Could be that you've blown the subwoofer and that's rattling. I've played some basstester tracks in my GSF w/ ML and never heard anything rattling around on the rear deck. I'm happy to test it out with your music to see if its a specific frequency that causes it...
