My rep said he could sell me an extended warranty on my 2017 since it's still under the manufacturer's warranty.

has anyone done this? recommendations? what kind of prices have you been seeing?

I bought one when I bought my 2017 and canceled it about 6 months into ownership once I knew the car was solid. I received a full refund since the factory warranty hadn’t expired. As long as you can cancel and get a full refund you’re OK.

When I bought my car, it came with a 5-year warranty which expired last April.
The dealer here does not extend warranties any further as other german brands do. I don't understand why.

It's useless if your local service center is gated by a bunch of monkey service advisors. with that said, look into your local service center/dealer reviews first

When I bought my 2018, it was brand new with 41 miles on it. However, the dealer couldn’t sell it and they had to make room for the 2019 that they were contractually obligated to keep on the showroom floor. They decided to sell the car to themselves which technically made it a used car. I asked them to certify it used so I could get the extra 2 years on the factory warranty. They told me that it costs money to certify the vehicle, so they said they’d do it if I bought the 3 year extended warranty. They wanted $4500 and we settled on $2500. I think it’s worth it for a 9 year factory warranty. I didn’t even know that was possible.

Did the same with my ‘17, well kinda. Previous owner that was selling it told me it was under extended warranty which he got when he bought the car as a CPO 12 months prior. Told him to cancel it and drop the price by whatever they refunded him. That refunded happened to be just over $2k. He agreed and I bought the car.
