Default Loud Clunk when car is COLD.

Only when the car is cold and on first application of the breaks. After you warm up no more noises. I don’t suspect that it’s the motor mounts because in N revving the motor does not make the sound. Only when applying the breaks. Could be bushing I guess.

Is this normal or not.
A lot of people have this noise and from searching the forum all you need to do is re-lube the break shims?

What gives and what do you really need to check?

The first time I hit my brakes - no matter what the temp, I get a loud clunk. Have had it since day 1. Told the dealer about it and they cut me off before I could finish telling me it is normal.

OK, If it's normal why did the car not make the sound for the first two years of use.
GO to the lot and test drive a new car.... Does it make the sound?
How does the dealer figure it's normal?

Cause Lexus Dealers don't know how to fix cars? Just my opinion of course.

OK, I no longer suspect that it is the breaks. The sound is there all day long mostly when changing directions. R to D or D to R not shifting but when stopping. Weight shifting to front or back.

This has got to be the Motor mounts or the suspension brace.

How much fighting am I going to do with the dealer because I have after market Rims, Shocks and Springs?

Anyone have pics of the place the where the break usualy occurs? I need to get this thing on a lift.

Took my GS to the dealer with the same problem (clunk while braking after going from reverse to drive) , they said it is normal.

I asked them why it haden't happened before and they said it becomes more noticable as the brake pads wear down.

Talk about ancient thread bumper.

Well I went back to my mechanic with the complaint and guess what,
He is like ohh I know It's normal no problem I'll fix it for you.

You guys were all correct.

It is the front Pads shifting.
You can't just drop the OEM Pads during the install and walk away.
They need to be adjusted (I think he pushed out the springs on the edges of the pad and filed a little piece on the edge of the Pad) well I have been driving it like a month and it's super quite.

I should have complained to him a lot earlier.

Yea it basically the guy doing the install taking shortcuts and not adjusting the front pads correctly.
I think it took him exactly five extra minutes a pad to adjust.

Don't do it right the first time make them do it over.

Luckily he is a nice guy and he didn't charge me a cent even though it has been over three months since he did the breaks.
