Blackout trim on GS400
Has anyone tried to blackout the chrome strip down the car and/or the chrome around the windows on a black car? I just bought a used GS last week, and was wondering what this would look like.
If so, please email me some pics or provide a link. Pics of a black car preerred, but any color is OK just to give me an idea of how it looks.
Thanks!

Wow, that looks really nice! I've been thinking of doing this when I do a few additional exterior repairs. If you don't mind me asking, how did you black out the trim?

Is that black out tape anything like electrical tape? Thats what I have in mind but its just a guess, don't worry I'm not gonna try electrical tape on my car or anything =P
Also, do body shops have any way of painting over those chrome strips? I'm thinking about painting the chrome strip that goes along the side of the car body color.

Thanks to Jacob for the pic. Looks great - I will likely follow suit.
As for the question about how to do it - I have done it both ways - painting and tape. IF you want to paint it , you need to prepare the chrome with some abrasive, tape the car off VERY carefully with some quality masking tape, prime with a gpod quality primer, and then spray with a good paint (cans are OK) in a semi flat black color. (not gloss, not flat). With this process I have never had the paint peel.
Taping it is easier, but sometimes you run into sections where you are forced to use two pieces of tape wihch leaves a seam. Depends on the car and trim configuration.
Thanks again

The difference between backout and eclectric tape is, blackout tape is flat no gloss and expandable while elec.tape is high gloss and not as expandable. I've posted here on how to do the job. You'll need a heat gun or hair blower to heat up the tape for better expansion on the curves of the GS window trim. Be patient, it'll take about 2 hours to do the job carefully.
