Default For those who have had their steering wheel off

Hey guys, quick question. If I remember correctly the 98-00 Gs400 had tiptronic shifting. Now, If you have a Gs300 of the same years, 98-00 is the wiring there for the tiptronic. Now I know the tranny has to be equipeed with it etc....I'm not concerned with that, what I want to know is the actual harness for the tiptronic standard on all models. Thanks guys!

Yea, see thats what I was wondering, my swap is equipped with tiptronic but my car wasn't originally. I know the center console would probably have to be swapped as well since it doesn't have the "slot" for the tiptronic manual selection, and the wheel would have to be changed of course. But I was wanting to verify if the actual wiring was there. As most manufacturers just run standard wiring for the different models and the 98-00 400 had tiptronic so I was hoping maybe the plugs/wires are there and just tucked away or already in the harness etc...just don't want to spend alot of money for nothing you know, lol.

I know what you mean, the IS non heated seats still has the harness behind the blank plates where the switches would go.

^^^ Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Most of the cars are manufactured all using the same harness whether you have th actual "unit" or not. Thats what I'm hoping to find out with the steering wheel shift buttons.

My only question is, why do you need shift buttons? Or what are you looking to do, come on give up the info

Just contemplating installing the tiptronic function on my car. Don't really need it but it would be nice to have.

The spiral cables are different. All the 400s, 430s, & 01+ 300s use the same spiral cable. The older 300s (without tiptronic) have a different one. You will probably have to swap that out at least. I know its not a complete answer but its part of the equasion.

p.s. spiral cable = clock spring

I dont know the price off the top of my head. Remind me monday through PM or something and I can check for you. I had to swap the cable on my GS. Its easy, just scary because of the airbag. And about the cutoff .... your car owned the day at Leroys but everyone rolled out before night fell and my lights came out to play. They are E30 lenses on SC430 projectors.

BTW: The shifter does not need the M section to use the manual mode. It's simply a switch position. If the car is equipped with e-shift then the car will make use of that and go into the manual mode. If the car isn't, then it will go into 4th gear. You can snap the cover off the shifter assembly and swap it with a M cover if it makes you happy

Trying to dig on what triggers M mode and activates the shift buttons. I don't care for the shift buttons anyway (hokey really, not a Tiptronic like I had hoped it was), would rather have 4th instead of M.

Is there just a switch in the console that when the shifter moves to the left it pushes and the M mode is active?

And is there any better shifters for the GS? One that really is worth shifting manually like my 80 Turbo T/A had?
