gurgling behind the dash?
I did a search on this and still did not figure out what this is.
I have a 2000 GS4 with 37,000 on it. Every morning I get this slight gurgle from right around the middle of the dash.
I know others have this same problem...I just hope it's not a head gasket on it's way out.

I think after looking it's air in the system. I really don't care since it's really when I start the car in the morning. It's only started to do it recently....it's getting cold here, but I park in a 65-70 degree garage.
As long as it's not some small problem that will become a big one, I couldn't care less.

Any air in the system will hinder your cooling ability.. it doesn't matter what the ambient temperature is because the cylinder gets hot enough to boil the coolant. Cooler ambient temperature only prolongs the time it takes to get to full temp. I'd fork out the $20 rather than have a potential headgasket issue later on.

And to bleed the cooling system....letting the car heat up, use gloves and undo the radiator cap?

$20 on a gallon of Toyota coolant. It's about $20 for the premixed, and about $25 for the 100% coolant. I buy the 100% myself and mix my own to get 2 gal. Check your reservoir because its probably a bit low by now.
To bleed the system, top off the radiator and reservoir first. Leave the cap open and then turn on your engine. Turn on the heater full blast at 85 degrees to get the heater core opened up. Go and fill up your radiator until it's full. Close the cap and then turn off the engine.I wouldn't wait until it gets hot because the level will fluctuate up and down. Eventually it'll just boil itself out the top so what looks like full will not be full. Instead, just check the coolant level the next day (providing you've driven the car, and the car has cooled down).
Any air you have in the system that you didn't get out the first time will accumulate in the radiator, and you'll be able to top it off again later on.

I have it too on my GS, kind of sounds like water swishing and moving around on the top dash area near the windsheild and it always happens when you let the car sit awhile and first start it up, it goes away after a while after you drive it. Someone told me it was liquid circulating from the AC/cooling system that has settled from not being started for awhile and possibly some air pressure has something to do with it. It is harmless and nothing to worry about, my 96 Honda Accord and 94 Mitsu Eclipse made a similar sound too but not as loud or noticeable when they were not started for a few days.

Your coolant in your engine is low on coolant, add water or coolant. Same thing happened to me after i parked my car for three months. Didnt know what the gurgling was asked my mechanic, told me it was low on coolant. Added half a litre of water and it went away.
