Airbag swap

Airbag swap
So I have a '98 GS400, which from what I've read, can swap airbags with a 2001 RX300 (both gen I bags and harness). Well I may have convinced a relative to swap bags with me.
My question is in the swap. I'l definitely unplug the batteries, but do I need to do anything else to make sure these things don't blow up? Is it as simple as disconnecting the negative ground, unbolting/plugging the bags and swapping?
Thanks!

Frank...may I inquire as to the reason behind the swap? Kind of curious, as I haven't seen many people swap airbags "for the hell of it" lol.

Just make sure you swap the steering wheel as well. Cars with the 01 style airbag have a different shaped steering wheel as well. The airbag MUST be from a 01-03 RX. As long as the steering wheel uses the same style airbag you can use a steering wheel out of a ES, GS, SC, RX, etc. The GS wheel is the only option for tiptronic and I believe the other cars have a little hump on the steering wheel for the index finger or something. Also, you dont HAVE to disconnect the battery. Just make sure the car is off and the key is removed from the ignition. I have had the steering wheel and airbag removed a few times and never had any problems.

Swapping the steering wheel out is easy. Once the airbag is out unplug the steering wheel harness from the clock spring (white plug) and loosen the center nut (19mm I think) but leave it barely on to catch the wheel when it comes loose. Then pull the wheel toward you and wiggle side to side. It will pop right off and the nut will keep it from throwing you back in your seat. Just make sure you line the wheel up just as it was when you tok it off so its straight.
