Default RX300 wood steering wheel

I could not find the answer only questions using the search, so unfortunately I have to start another thread about this topic. Sorry.

Is the RX 300 wood steering wheel with airbag a direct bolt up to a 98 GS 300?

Thanks and sorry again for bring this up.

I was told this once...

The only way you could do the swap by trading is if you trade your 98-00 GS steering wheel and airbag for an 01-03 RX steering wheel and airbag. You will loose the tiptronic but that is the only way to do it. You will have to find different parts from different people in order to make this work. If you want to retain the tiptronic you have to get a steering wheel from an 01-05 GS and an airbag from a 01-03 RX. It is hard to find the wheel from one car and the airbag from another unless you just buy them. I searched for a long time before I had to bite the bullet and buy the RX airbag.

So there is no way to make a RX 300 wheel and airbag work?

meh, who gives a crap about the air bag. As long as you wear your seat belt you're fine. I had an airbag deploy on me years ago when some jackhole backed into me. It scratched my eyes and I saw white spots for months.

Cars back in the day didn't have them. I disable them in every car I own. I have never needed one, been in a few accidents that were not my fault and every time I was fine with just the seat belt.

The e-shift doesn't really matter since the GS3 didn't have it 98-00. Other than that I believe it's a direct swap.

Sorry man but that has to be the stupidest thing I have heard in a while A airbag can save your life in certain situations that a seat belt won't help in. In modern cars like the GS there are many factors to the airbag system, unlike older cars. The airbags are dual stage meaning that they deploy at different speeds depending on the impact. I can go on and on the benefits about airbags, but a simple Google search will suffice.

Don't be ignorant and disable the airbags or advise any others to do so...

The 98-00 airbags where a single stage and the 01-05 airbags are dual stage.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have read that the 01-03 RX are single stage airbags, so they will work with a 98-00 GS.

The 98-00 GS did not have tiptronics.

Is that the same for the 400 98-00 Gs'?. I had a Moto wooden steering wheel in my jag and I love the feel. So I can just swap out a 2001-2003 Rx wheel. Don;t care about the e shift cuz iI hardley ever use it. thanks!
