Default Iphone & Aftermarket GPS

Hello All,

I have my eye on the Kenwood DNX 7140 to go along with my 3G Iphone. It will control both Audio & Video from the head unit which is one of the major reasons why I'm considering this unit.

Please feel free to chime in with any opinion you may have.

Thanks,
Al

The pioneer F900BT is a pretty sweet unit. I think thats the model number.. its like 600 bucks. Reads iphone contacts, dials, has GPS and all that good stuff.. This was the unit I planned to get before I built the CarPC instead. More functions, slightly cheaper.

The Pioneer F90BT will play Iphone Video and Audio. Drawback, screen 5.8" vs. the 6.95" I'm getting with the Kenwood which also plays BOTH A/V and controlled via HU. I looked at the Pioneer Z series (7" screen) but no Iphone Video, what were they thinking ?

Get a Pioneer Avic Z series, they play audio/video with the iphone/ipod hookup and controls it all through the head unit, along with a built in hard drive for mp3's, built in nav etc...

Pioneer Z series does NOT pay Iphone Video, ONLY Audio.

Pretty sure it does but I could be wrong, I know it plays video from any other player like a Creative Zen etc....

Actually spoke with a Rep of theirs (Oliver) and he confirmed no Video playback from Iphone. One would have to plug the Iphone (which I'm trying to keep out of sight) into a AUX RCA to view ANY video, which means no interface and no head unit control. If I have received misleading information, I hope someone out there could shed a little light on the matter. This is the main reason why I'm steering away from Pioneer Z series and going over to Kenwood 7140, I think the Z is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye but function also plays a role.

Kenwood all the way, Same unit i have, works great with Iphone, Best thing on Kenwood vs Pioneer, is that you wont be forced to buy an upgrade dvd every 2 yrs or so ($200-250) what kinda aftermarket Brackets you gonna get for your double din?
if you dont already know, Carson has the best matched bracket! matches your A/C control and sits the unit flushed! perfectly cut for our GS's I was impressed

I haven't bought brackets yet... What makes you think Carson works the best ? Can you send me a pic of it installed on your ride ? I've seen some other ones out there that have a recessed bezel type frame that surrounds the opening but not really sure if that's what is going to look best. BTW I have the extended wood trim and was planning on having Pattertek "wood" the face on the "bracket" to match the rest of the car. If you have a better idea, please pass along...

I dont currently have a pic , My car is the shop, getting goodies! :-) - but since your going with the wood works , Than nevermind my last post!
i had a non-name-brand aftermarket braket, but it just wasnt sized right
as far as wanting to see just how the carson ones look like there are other members who have postd the brakets, let me see if i can find you some
btw these are original TOYOTA parts strait from the motherland

I've seen this one... looks really nice, the other kind has the bezel which I'm not very fond of. However, I've seen some head units that look better with the bezel surrounding the HU, I guess it depends on which HU you have. I'll most likely still get the Carson... I would love to see a picture of your Kenwood set up, when you get it back that is.
Thanks!
Al
