Default ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII and your GS

Anyone here try this? I searched and there wasn't much on experiences with it. I'd like to get this and primarily run it paired with my Android phone. Just thought I'd see if anyone has had experience with at least the ELM327 and maybe even using it with a droid. Thoughts and comments may proceed...

Ok well since noone had any experience I will share mine, works pretty good! I got the ELM327 Bluetooth adapter off Ebay and bought an app from the app market (Torque is what I'm running). All in all it ran me like $41, which is cheaper than the basic scanner tool you get from Walmart or Autozone and it works so much better! Not all of the sensors the app is set up for read off of our ECU but you can still monitor quite a few of the gauges for your GS such as 02 sensor voltages, Battery Voltage, Coolant Temp and many others. With the app you can log data and have it emailed to yourself. Anyway just thought I would share in case someone else goes searching for this info. Also if you rock an Android phone I definitely recommend getting the Autozone App. Its free, and it has schematics and wiring diagrams for like the entire car, plus you can browse for parts and such too. Ok thats it just wanted to resurrect this to let you guys know it does work.

There is an Autozone App available for the iPhone as well, but it keeps telling me that it's no longer available. Hmmpf.

You can buy Toyota TIS cable on ebay for $120, and that comes with a hacked version of Techstream (which is normally thousands of dollars).

Why bother with ELM?

What is the major difference between the two?? I was thinking of getting the Bluetooth ELM because I can I keep it attached to the car, no wires under my feet, and it seems to be fairly simple and very useful? Any insight? Thanks

I'm using the same setup... also using Torque & ELM27 off ebay for $35.. here's a pic of it running in the GS.. The author also updates pretty frequently. I've used it to clear cel's when needed straight from the Evo. Great setup for under $50.

I bought a Chinese TIS cable (X-Horse Mini VCI) for $120 that has full Techstream support except ECU flashing, so I cant reprogram the ECU with calibration updates. Most calibration updates however are free at the dealership, because they are mostly released as parts of recalls/TSB.

Theres a Toyota certified cable that allows to do reprogramming (Mongoose VCI) but it runs for $500.

Everything else works 100% with the cheap cable that I have. I can run all the tests, check error codes (not just power train), customize settings, etc.

I've used ELM before, its nicer than a basic scan tools because it can read sensors data, but only on the power train. I'll post some screencaps of Techstream later.
