Default Valve Cover - Pic worth a thousand words?

Just replaced the driver side valve cover gasket. Easy-Piesy.
But with the cover removed, I was wondering if I could tell what kinda condition my engine might be in? Is what you see this typical? Is the orangy color varnish? Should I be worried?

I wouldn't be too worried. It is just oil/carbon buildup from throughout the years.

no worries. That look is typical with your miles and using dino oil. If you were using syn oil for the life of the engine, it would almost look new inside.

Thanks.
They're original. The spark plug tub oil seal o-ring was leaking and corroded the tip of one spark plug boot. Just need to replace the rubber casings that protect the little wires powering stuff. The heat and age made them all hard and they kinda crumble when you move 'em.

Perhaps mind set has something to do with it.
It took a few hours from start to finish. Mostly cuz my OCD kicked in and I wanted everything to be clean and perfect. Yea, it's a little tight but if you're patient, its mostly just an issue of "pushing" stuff outta the way. The more of your own work you do, the more courageous you become
