Default DIY: mounting the front licence plate without visible holes

well this is actually pretty easy DIY, it works and cosmetic-wise you don't see anything a lot of people complain that the GS doesn't have any mounting mechanism on the front bumper for the licence plate, so if you put on the plate, you end up with ugly holes on the bumper.

well that's over, i managed to put on the licence plate without any holes on the front site of the front bumper the trick? try to put it under the bumper

so here it is. get two L brackets, and mount the bottom side of the licence plate to one side of the bracket.

couple of things to look out for. the L bracket has to be large enough so it will allow the screw and bolt to tighten up the front licence plate without scratching the bumper. on the other hand, you don't want the L bracket to be too long as well otherwise it would stick out too much

same thing for the bolt that ties the licence plate to the L bracket. you want it short so it won't touch the bumper

this is a closer look. i got washer and stuff to make sure it's tight

then the next thing you would do is just to use a drill, drill up two holes at the bottom of the bumper, and use a sharp screw to screw the L brackets to the bumper. you shouldn't hit any metal at all it's that easy

Actually looks pretty nice in person -- very clean. The plate looks like its hovering in front of the bumper. And it's easy to remove...

ah yeah forgot to say, it takes less than 1/2 hr to do the first install (most time measuring and drilling)

and now i can take off or put on the licence plate in 4 mins at most

Thumbs up

if I was you, I would mount a lisence plate frame infront of that plate. Keep the plate solid, your plate as is will probably flex under strong wind or high speed driving.

ahhaha good call, i did try and even with the plate frame it started to flex. since it looks even worse with a frame, i was like what the heck and took it off so now my front plate is a bit flex but still got space between it and the bumper

You can always put the frame in the back of the license plate for structural support fi you don't want to see the frame from the front of the car. I have been doing this for years. The frame chrome just shows very little around the plate and makes it looks like a tiny chrome license plate housing.

rominl, how has this held up? Any updates? Did you put a nut behind the bumper or anything to reinforce the screw connection?

I just used bumper plugs for the front. No sweat from the cops so far (knocks on wood)
