Default Leather Steering Wheel Cover

I didn't like the wood on the wheel, too slick feeling so opted to try a leather steering wheel cover from: http://www.dccarcare.com/

Normal delivery was very quick (3 days). After some self debate I decided to go with the burgandy to sort of match the Matador/Cashmere. 15 different color choices and several styles. Leather is first rate, good feel and heavy waxed thread to lace it up with. Ordered extra thread kit to do a baseball stitch (no charge). After measuring I ordered a "C" size and it's a good fit. A little bunching around the spokes but no real alternatives there. The lacing holes could have been a little closer together but overall came out quite good. Where the cover goes over the spokes I had to skip 4 holes but looped the lacing through them so it looks the same. If you do this, take your time, figure 3-4 hours to allow for un-lacing a few holes a couple of times.

Personally, I like wood steering wheel in a luxury sedan like the GS. Too bad they have it as standard in all models in the U.S. Up here, we can't even get the wood steering wheel on the 3GS unless you get the top of the line premium package with the ML/NAV & PCS.

Doing? In regards to the steering wheel, I would have preferred the "base" model wheel that's all leather like my 1GS. Prefer the continuity of leather on the wheel

Sport the wood, it is classy, keep your GS climat control around 65-70 and you should'nt have that much of slick feel against it.

To each his own. I also prefer the wood wheel, but hey, it's your GS JHStrange. If you like it, then that's all that matters.

I'm sorry, but that just looks plain bad. If were you were going to go with an aftermarket leather steering wheel cover you could have at least picked a color that matched your interior and had it installed by a professional.

On a side note, I'm sure you could order an OEM all leather steering wheel since Lexus offers it in other markets. It would be pricey, but at least it would look stock and not stick out like a sore thumb.

JHStrange
Thanks for an informative post. I too love the look of the wood in my 2GS430, but here in Texas, the wood gets too cold in the winter, and too hot and sticky and icky in the summer. So I'm covering it up too, and your little tutorial just saved me a few hours of research. It's a little late, but to prevent the bunching, you could've shrunk the leather by thoroughly wetting it and heat drying it before installation.

as Amethy stated, i am sure there are a bunch of Canadians w/ 3GS's itching to get a wood wheel, so why not try to do a trade? you might even make a few bucks off it since the wood is an "upgrade"

You guys wanting the wood steering wheel must not have one. They are incredibly hot in the summer, freezing in the winter and slippery all the time. They are the ultimate poser item. IMHO they are one of the top five reasons I will not be in a GS again. The fact is you drive with this thing called a steering wheel and making it "look good" as opposed to functional is as silly as the iDrive.
Make it an option Lexus!
