Default Car-wash Experience

Decided to have my car washed just before I left for San Diego (90 mile trip). When I got to San Diego I tried opening the rear driver's side door, but it wouldn't open so I went around to the other rear door and it too would not open. I had to manually open the rear doors from inside the car. Then it occurred to me to check to see if the child locks had been activated. Sure enough both door were in the child lock position. I guess the car wash employee had inadvertently activated them when he was wiping down the doors. So I reset them to open. Later that night as I was coming back home, tooling down the freeway about 30 miles from my home, the tire icon on my instrument panel started flashing and a warning note "check system" appeared. Well I knew this meant that I had an electrical failure of the TPMS system. Drove home with that annoying light blinking and thinking I would have to take the car in for servicing the next day. Was about to take the car in for servicing the next day when it occurred to me to check the TMPS switch under the glove compartment. Sure enough it was in the secondary TMPS position. That car wash employee struck again. Anyone had a similar experience after having their car washed?

I never tried the child locks...but now you have me worried. When they are activated you can't open the door from outside but you can from inside?

Sounds to me like someone was having some fun at your expense... too many switches pulled to be random rubbing & buffing.

I always hate taking my car to the car wash, but when it's 20 degrees out, I'm not doing it myself, $20 bucks, inside and out in 5 minutes...can't beat it.
Last Friday I was in a hurry and I'm always conserned because I lowered the car a bit, but in front of me was a brand new 911 and believe it or not behind me a brand new Bentley...I think I would have made them wash the Bentley by hand...
Anyway , just find a wash your happy with. Allot of times you can find a local kid to do a good job cheap.

Sounds really odd to me. But yeah, usually when the child locks are activated, the lock the door from opening from the inside. As for the TPMS sensor switch... why would they need to go anywhere near that for???

^^ werd , Dirt is temporarly. Scratch, dent, or any ***** up by someone else is permanent. I rather leave it dirty until I have a chance to do it myself.

No. You can not open the door if you try to pull on the inside rear door handle, but you can open the door if you manually use the lock switch on the driver's side arm rest.
