Question on HID for fog lamps
Hi fellas, happy holidays !!!! This may belong in the lighting forum but it is Gen 3 specific
I am a beleiver in doing things right. For headlights, it is not proper to throw in HID lights in halogen reflector housings, for our GX I installed the Xenon Depot HID kit since the GX already has projectors and the beam is crisp, clear and does not blind people because of the glare.
Here is the question....for those who have HIDs in their fogs, how is the beam pattern and the glare for oncoming traffic. I dont want to install HIDs if the beam will be scattered and be a potential hazard to oncoming traffic, and also be at risk for a fix-it ticket. They make mini projectors, perhaps that can be used as well....what are your inputs, perhaps post some pics from head on....Thanks in advance...

it definitely create more glare than normal halogen for the fogs. however, sing the fogs are so low, and they are shooing towards the ground anyway, i don't think the effect is that bad at all
you can always spend the money and get the lexus oem hid fogs from japan

it's totally fine, I've had them on my old car with similar design reflectors for more than 5 years. Not once was I high-beamed for it, I've only received compliments and trust me, once you go HID fog, you will never use anything else.

I intalled my HID foglight over a year ago with 3000k (golden yellow), never been high-beamed either!!!
You will love HID foglight, especially in FOG!!!

12k is marketing hype.
Usable HID is in the 4200k range as OEM spec is. I consider 5K to be the highest before the performance of usable light diminishes. The higher the Kelvin (K) doesn't mean the best light output. It usually means the worst.

Good luck driving with 12k HID!!!
Initially I ordered 6k HID for my headlight, but somehow they sent me 12k by mistake. I put it in just for the kick!!!
During the day, it looked pink/purple in color. At night it blends into the the road along with the asphalt, which means you can not see sxxt at night PERIOD!!!
But you well smart enough to put 3k HID for the fog!

Some pics of the 3000K xenondepot kit I installed a month ago:
Very bright, but the beam patten is not as clear as the headlight since the fogs were not designed as HID. However, as others mentioned, since the fogs are so low it doesn't cause much glare for oncoming traffic.
And since I washed my car today, a couple gratuitous shots:
Just no nice backgrounds like Eyekutr.
OT, but with your username, are you an ophthalmologist or work at a refractive surgery center?
