Hello everyone! I have a couple of questions about what kind of light set ups pepole are using for DRL lights. Also I would like to know whats the best kind of light set up for my bright lights. Thanks for anyones opion.

You have to be more specific as to which lights you're referring to..... the DRLs can either be the parking light, or the high beam bulbs. People here have different lighting setups also.....

You can run any color you want in these variants.

You can do LEDs for the parking lights, and LEDs for the 9005 bulb, the downside is you lose the ability to have high beams.

You can do LEDs for parking lights, and HIDs for 9005 bulb, the downside is if you want them DRL-type on/off, you will need a relay kit, where you tap power off of your battery, and use a capacitor+relay to tell the bulbs when to switch on and off. (Also, it's like running high-beams on all day if you have DRLs set to on from factory).

You can also do LEDs for parking lights, and blue ebay halogen bulbs. You still get the advantage of factory, you just might have an orange tint when the blue ebay halogen bulbs are in DRL mode instead of high beams.

Hope this comparison helps! I spent a few days doing my reading from other forums, gaining input from different cars, and finally settling on what I had setup.

you think the second set your talking about getting is brighter than the ijdmtoy drl led bulb?

 

interesting LED SoCal, that's about 5x/+ more power draw than the avg LED DRL..... Def write a review and let us know! $120$ is pretty steep, you can get a decent HID kit for cheaper.

 

CREE is one of the brightest LED right now, what I heard its between 5 - 8 x brighter then LED.
The 1st one with 10 CREE LED with 850 lumen, the 2nd one has 1800 Lumen .

IJDM toy have this with 1600 Lumen for $140, but this one is plasma.

I definitely have to try a set out for my fogs when I get the chance..... is the heat intensity as high as an HID kit?

Also, is that a capacitor on the end of the bulbs?

 

CREE and Plasma its a lot hotter then LED, that's why they need big heat sink, and if you notice the 2nd one (the one from Vleds $120) it has big heatsink and fan behind it to despite the heat faster.

Gotcha, I did notice the heatsink+fan, but I was referring to the beam, is the beam very hot, while it is bright too? I ask this because HID's beams can melt the front lens on a lot of cars, including my car, since the bulb supplied has a bad refraction angle (Think magnifying glass in the sun).

Also, I did more reading, and I know what it is now.

Apparently those little things are ballasts, I assume it's the same for the vLED set too, as it also has extra controls for other things (fans & I believe 2-stage lighting).

 

Ahhh, I see....with the one I have now, no, its actually cooler.

Thought I would add this input, I have H3 standard 55w for my fog lights. I tried a number of different lights sold on Amazon, and the brightest LED bulbs were these:



I also tried a Silverstar (overdriven halogen) which was the brightest. Because of the small reflector mounted low, none of these bulbs casts light more than a few feet in front of the vehicle, they are for looks only.

I'm using the first one (which uses CREE LEDs at about 25W) because I like the color temperature (around 5000K which matches the factory Xenon) better than the second one which has a higher color temperature.

 

I would say brighter but cannot be use to replace high beam, like above post (By SaigaX) the beam not that far.

First off, would like to thank you for your input, I usually don't cruise other subforums often, although I should.

Secondly, your input is much appreciated! Even though I didn't start this thread, the LEDs have caught my interest, as I don't want to risk burning up my foglight lenses anymore with the HIDs.

I don't think my fogs go very far anyway lol.... It does light up a few feet and very faint light up beyond that.

Either way, thanks! I'll still look into these! I've been considering doing 6000k HID bulbs in my setup recently.... Growing bored of the very bluish tint lately. TY!
