Default Took my 2007 GS450h to the 1/4 mile track

Yesterday a couple friends and I went down to the local quarter mile track in Ennis,TX where we decided to run our cars.

In preparation to taking my car to the track, I replaced my air filter, put new iridium spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body intake the day before. I also took out my spare tire and all the things that sat above it.

The first run I did with my tires at 35psi, but then after that, I lowered the rears to 25psi. I had about a 1/4-1/8 tank of gas through out my 3 runs. My hybrid battery was fully charged when we got to the track, but waiting in line for so long, my hybrid battery dropped down to 2-3 bars. For the most part I ran with no more than 3 bars.

I had the car set HYBRID PWR mode and when I set up at the christmas tree, I stepped on the brake and gas pedal (about 1/2 throttle, just so the engine would be on) and just released the brake as soon as the light was green.

My best time was 13.937 at 104.07mph.

Here is a video of one of the runs against my friend's RSX type S (he missed 3rd gear lol)

And here's a video from inside my car

Now, I know when I was about to buy this car that I could not modify it at all performance wise. But would an air intake pipe make any difference? I would love to get 13.8 or better if possible. Is there anything I could have done to get a better time? Maybe a fully depressed gas pedal at the starting line? Does your RT time count against your total 1/4 mile time or is that subtracted? If not, then I'm still happy with what I got as I was the fastest hybrid there

These are my time slips.

Slicks and lighter race wheels.

Nice, looks like it's moving very slow at first it's amazing how smooth and quiet the video from your car is compared to the RSX - thanks for sharing

What kind of wheels do you have on your GSh? Can you post up some pics of your set-up?

I'm not by my computer right now but here are some pics I found on my phone. My car needed 4 new tires and I ended up finding a good deal on some 19" LFA reps with new tires so I bought them. I read that a lot of the 2IS guys have them and like them so I'm giving them a shot. I'm also lowered on ksport coilovers.

Remove the spare tire, jack, floor mats, passenger and rear seats, and any other weight that you can easily unbolt.

Next grab a cooler with ice, before you go for a run put a bag of ice over the intake manifold.

When your almost out of gas add some race fuel.

Then go to the track again and play with the air tire settings, then add nitrous

GS-F:

1. Your reaction time is not related to your elapsed time in the 1/4 mile. The reaction time is the time between when the green light turns on and your front tires break the beam. The elapsed time is the time between when your front tires break the staging beam and when you cross the finish line.

2. Do not add 'race gas.' Your car is not designed for it, so it won't help.

Did you find lowering the air pressure helped? Slicks and other drag tires typically use low air pressures, but regular radial tires usually work best at their intended pressures.

Nice job...drag racing is fun, ain't it? :-)

I wonder how much weight I can save. When I was at the track I got on the scale and weighed 4030lbs w/o driver.

My GS didn't have a spare when I bought it because it had run flats when it was new. So, I bought a spare tire from another member here.

Thanks for the answer!

I think you are right, changing tire pressure didn't do much. lol.

I had a blast at the track!
