Overhead RSE Needed Parts
First off... I did search a few different ways and was unable to come up with the information I am looking for...
I have a "new to me" 08 GX with the ML sound, Nav and 6 disc Cd changer.
Simply , what is needed to install an overhead DVD screen, other than an overhead DVD screen!
Is the wiring present and it is a simple plug-n-play? If not, What do I need to source for a complete system?
Is one system better than another? Headrest type better than overhead?
It has been over 20 years since I had or wanted a DVD system in a vehicle but with 7, 5, 3 ,and 1 year old grandchildren... looking to make long rides a bit
more enjoyable for them. Most times there will be only 2 little ones in the truck, so headsets are a needed option as well.
Thank you in advance.

That 6 disc changer only operates as a DVD player if you are not moving and in park. I think it needs to see the parking brake activated. There was a factory DVD unit that goes to the ceiling but was a separate DVD player than that 6 disc. I ended up going with headrest units years ago and they have DVD players integrated into the headrest screens so the kids have the option to mirror the screens to watch the same thing on both screens or can watch different things since they are different ages (and sexes) they want to watch different shows/movies. The unit also allowed USB integration, SD card reading, video games and controllers built in, etc., infrared headphones, etc. so the parents don't need to listen to the same movie over and over and over and over and can listen to music they want.

Thank you for that information... Had not considered the age factor and show choices. The headrest option with separate screen inputs makes more sense, thanks again!

The 6-disc changer in the glove box is CD only as far as I know.
There were a number of different aftermarket entertainment systems installed locally by dealers. Mine is also in the headrest but is a different brand. The DVD unit is under the passenger seat.
Honestly though, it's 2023.
I would look for headrest tablet holders and get some cheap Android ones to play movies.

Rebeccalyn is trying to have their headrest DVD players/screens removed. Maybe you can work out a swap/purchase of their system? They just started a thread on it.
