Default Auto tilt / telescope not working

Hello CL!

My auto telescope specifically is not working properly. I tried looking up youtube vida and searching the forums but couldn't find anything for this fix. The only thing I can come up with is fixes for literally every other lexus platform. I was hoping someone could drop a link to something I've possibly overlooked? Much appreciated.

The one YouTube video I did follow for thr gx, had me re-grease the moving parts. No change I'm performance for me. I think the motor is just dead and needs replacing.

The wiring diagram isn't clear about this, but check fuses ECU-B, ECU-IG, and POWER (it's a 30A, no other description or location available).

I don't have wire colors, but check pins 2 and 6 on the Tilt and Telescope ECU. You should see 12v (bidirectional) when the switch is used to move the wheel in & out. Looks like the ECU is inside the steering column.

The POWER fuse is in the driver's side interior fuse box.

If it's not any of the fuses, get the codes read.
It looks like the codes for the tilt/telescope function are manufacturer specific so you will need a Toyota/Lexus specific code reader.

Thanks Chip. I don't think it's the fuses but I'll change them anyways. When I turn the car off, the tilt & telescope works just fine. It's only when you turn the car on and the steering wheel is coming towards you. I'm trying to avoid the stealership, I'm sure it will be a ridiculous amount of money for them to fix it.

Does it work manually?

Is there a way to move the steering wheel manually? I didn't think I could since I could since it is auto.

What I've been doing after I lubed it up real good is, I will "help" the wheel come towards me on start up by pulling on it.

There is a square **** on the lower left side of the column with 4 arrows on it. That's the manual control.

So that **** works. But the wheel struggles to come towards me when you first turn the car on. If I let the wheel do its start up thing, then try to adjust with the ****, it still struggles to come towards me. No issues going towards the engine or up & down. Just out.

Have you tried lubricating the gear/motor/slide mechanism?

Does it behave the same with the **** as it does at startup? If it does then look into putting some white grease on the mechanism. If not, then investigate an electrical problem.

Yes, I lubed up the entire thing hoping that would help solve the issue but no dice.

Yes, regardless of start-up or moving it manually, it does the same thing.

Fwiw the auto tilt/ telescope can be programmed off. I had our local dealer turn it off on both of our GX’s. We’re skinny people and I see that feature as more wear and tear since we don’t need it. I know you’re trying to avoid the dealer but this was pretty cheap to do.

Thanks for the info. How do you go about adjusting the steering wheel if a different driver gets behind the wheel?
