You can't watch a burned DVDR on a DVD player so why would a burned copy work in the Nav

I saw on the other discussion forum saying, to upgrade to the complete gen4 software, the ECU unit (i.e. nav processor) needs to be replaced. They said the gen4 nav can give you a 3D view when you are zoomed in to the most detail range. Not sure if this is true, has anyone try the new nav on GX470/LX470/LS430?
When you say 3D view do you mean a topography view? What else would you need the 3rd dimension for?

Also, are the ECU's expensive, and are they even available?

The 3.01 update I did does not update the system software to Gen 4. I can not tell any difference in the speed or other operations of the NAV system, it runs just as good as ever. Besides the updated maps and POI's I do not believe there is any other difference between v2.01 and 3.01.

As far as copying the DVD, if anyone can tell me how to copy the new NAV DVD I would be happy to dup it and post it on the news groups for all to enjoy! I have copied and posted lots of regular Video DVDs but I have not found anything to extract the NAV data from this DVD. Let me know......

Just to clarify for those reading this. You cannot play DVD's in the NAV system.

lexusnc,
Where on the net can I go to see the DVD-Rs you've posted? Are they about 4 Gig or so? If you have a good high speed connection, I'd like to connect! Thanks!

I post to the newsgroups via easynews, just use your newsgroup reader and serarch on DVD-R. most of what I post goes to alt.binaries.dvdr. I am not sure where I would post a NAV DVD, but if I figured out how I would find the right group. just abour everything in the alt.binaries.dvdr group are actual DVDs, so they are 4.7 GB and when you extract them and burn them on a DVD-R you get all the normal DVD menus and content. This is why if I could find the right program I could clone the NAV DVD with a fairly good chance that it would work in the NAV system.

You will not be able to copy the NAV dvd because it is a "dual layer" dvd. I extracted the contents of mine and it was over 7gb. DVDR is only 4.7gb = won't work.

Can't you buy higher capacity DVD-Rs? I thought you could. Doesn't matter for me anyway, I'm buying a 04 LX with the new 4.0 version. Yeah!

You can get dual layer recorders out there.

I don't have any brand new DVD players to try it with, maybe I'll go to Circuit City and try watching a burned DVDr but what I meant was I have burned DVD's and was never able to watch them on a DVD player only the computer and then transferred them to a TV with an S cable.

You can listen to burned CD's on a CD player and you can watch burned DVDr on your Nav system but the reason I said it would not work with a DVDr is cause the Sony PlayStation2, Game Cube and XBox do not allow burned games to be played so why would a burned DVDr work in the system, it might not be finalized right or have the Lexus codes on it and the system will not recognize it.

Only the LS and LX will have the new Nav 4.0 in 2004.
