Other than 4wd compared to Awd, are there big differences between the Tundra drivetrain vs the GX?

I have decided that one vehicle for all my needs wasn't going to work out. So I recently bought a Honda Civic for fuel mileage. But now my GX seems a little too car-like I am looking for an open bed. My hope is to find an even trade on an older (but still nice condition) Tundra. A 5.7L later model may also be possible but Toyo trucks seem to hold their value pretty nicely.

My GX doesn't do any heavy towing but it and its possible replacement will need to drag my 18ft run-about boat. Other than that it'll be tasked with normal truck-stuff where the GX isn't so good.

So, who has had both? And what did you like/dislike about the truck?

Engines are the same for each for the given year up to '09, both switched to vvti in '05+ with a bump in HP. GX is fulltime AWD, Tundra is RWD/4X4 as you stated.

'10+ Tundras are also available with the 4.6 V8 found in the GX460, but I don't know about any differences between the drivelines for the newer trucks beyond the same AWD vs. RWD/4X4 as the older gen.

All GX 2uz motors are manufactured in Japan. All other platform utilizing the 2uz motors (tundra, 4R) are not manufactured in Japan.
