Steering Rack Replacement
My GX has 171k on the clock and time has come for a new rack. Please share your experience on OEM vs Aftermarket if you’ve had this done recently. This is something I will not DIY. Thanks

Check out the GXOR group on FB, I've seen guys swapping GX460 racks into GX470's, but I've not fully read up on what's involved. I've seen far more discussion on the topic over there than anywhere else though.

Thanks Ian. I’ve always stuck with all things OEM, but the price for new rack at Lexus is astronomical. Since nothing high tech with racks, I’m considering aftermarket sources but certainly don’t want issues 2 months down the road.

At 130k on my 03 I had my entire steering rack, tie rod ends, and all high pressure hoses replaced after my OEM one was creaking/whining loudly on every turn of the steering wheel. My local mechanic replaced it with a Vision OE rack and pinion for the high price of 1900 including labor. So far, no issues besides a little creaking when it got under 25-30F degrees which goes away when the car warms up.
