Thumbs down New Lexus position on vibration fix

Acoording to the Service Manager of a dealership and a Regional Factory rep who drove my 2003 GX470 they state in a letter to me: 'We felt at the time the vehicle operated the same as other GX470's'. In talking to the Service Manager today I reminded him that when he drove the vehicle he said that it did have a vibration and several others had the same. Therefore, Lexus, the company, is now telling them to tell the owner...the vibration came with the vehicle at no extra cost and they all do the same thing...so forget talking about it or trying to have Lexus fix it. In other words..they now say it is normal for the GX. This way they have no liablity to honor a fix for the problem. I guess that's one way to get out of their responsibility to take care of a problem in a new vehicle. The Service Manager implied this was true...sad because I used to consider him one of the most ethical service people Ihave known over the year...lots of them..73. I am currently asking for relief through arbitration with NCDS..an arbitration group recognized by Lexus...and to be used before filing for Lemon Law protection in Indiana. This is my third Lexus and probably my last.....I thought they would remain customer loyal, but in this case they apparently turned and ran.....

Maybe they should change their motto to "the somewhat-less-than-passionate pursuit of perfection."

Personally the vibration doesn't bother me at all... I can see where it would bother others though. The things that bother me the most are interior rattles, which the GX has few of. Hopefully they won't ever multiply...

Default vibration fix

Yesterday, I was on a test drive with the Service Manager here in SA. He said the vibration occurs at 1800 RPMs. It is present in almost every GX vehicle. There will be a TSB coming out with a fix from Lexus. Mine supposedly had the vibration, but it was nearly impecerptable to me.
I was hearing a whine at 75 to 85, from the Tranny, but it would not happen while my Svc Mgr was in the car.
So far this is not a big deal, I'm very pleased with my second GX.

Default how bad is it for you?

If I try, I can feel a very slight hum/vibration in the steering wheel at the rpms mentioned. But I really can't believe that is what everyone is complaining about and wanting to file lemon law for. Please tell me the degree to which you feel this vibration.

Others MUST be feeling something that I'm not, because I would never even consider this an issue and actually never would have noticed it if not for all the complaints here.

I am extremely pleased with my '04 GX. Had the clunk one time, barely noticed it. Love the ride, the luxury, the handling.

It's certainly not pleasant if one needs to maintain speed at 60 mph. The very slight hum/vibration changes to slight shaking/vibration at highway speed around 1800 rpm.

If you don't feel it in your GX, you are lucky.

super,
Then I must not have it. Mine is an extremely fine pitched/high frequency hum in the wheel, barely noticeable at all. I have an '04 9700b October build with the Bridgestone Duelers if it helps any for reference.

It is very bad for me. The vibration is more heard then felt. But it just about roars on my vehicle from 60mph to 80mph. It is the worse at 75mph.

Anyone having it on an 04

My earlier post Lemon Claim discussed the vibration issue and how they fixed it. Your problem might be different. The Service dude explained in detail that a lot of the bridgstones when on the ship are tied very tight and in cold weather the indentation stays with the tire and can't be evened out , even after a long time. I don't know how much of that is true. Not even sure if there would be ropes around the tires to hold the car tight. However thats the explanation he gave me.

SERVICE BULLETIN ST3010
Has anyone called up service and ask for this resolution yet? Last time I was told by my GX's service consultant that they have my GX on the list of cases that have RPM related vibration issue, and once Lexus comes up with a fix, I'll be notified. I'm just wondering if I should proactively ask them about the fix and mention about this service bulletin. Would it make sense?

Insist on Michelin Tires if you can. That is what took care of the problem for me.

Default No vibration so far

I have an 04 GX 9700E build. Just hit 500miles on it with no vibration so far and most of my driving is on the highway. I have those Dunlop tires.
