2004 ES330 has the 'Destination by Number' feature.
I believe this is a new feature for the ES, LS and LX.
One gripe I have about the NAV is that the 5 million POI database still does not cover the entire yellowpages. While certain catagories suchs as ATMs and gas stations are complete, others are completely left out.

damn, how come Lexus couldn't have made it available to ALL their vehicles??? hmmm, still my suspicion of "they are saving the new features for the refreshed gx, or the newly redesigned Gx", that's always been my hunch when Lexus comes out with new technologies in their other cars.

I had an Alpine unit on my '97 QX4. Over the years I used three different versions of software. I have no doubt that the upgrade version for the GX will be much different than what is being used today.

We are Left out in the GX
Your nav screens are much different - wonder why? When I was purchasing my GX 470 last summer we looked at Toyota's but one funny thing happened. When we when to test drive they wouldn't let us drive it. Yes you hear me right. Unless I put 1500 of earnest money down to drive it. If I didn't like it they would give the 1500 towards another Toyota but not give it back. So I told no thanks!!!
I looked at the LX 470 - but it seemed like with everything I got on my GX it was going to be 20k more and I just didn't see what the appeal was. I did like how the LX handled.
Thanks to all for all your postings - sure has given alot of light on the Nav features!!!

That is comin soon to all new Lexus's, as the 04' LS430 has the same features as that Land Cruiser did... Lexus calls it the 4th Generation Navigation System. You also have the same colored screen, with the abillity to change the color about 4 different ways

I know. You would think Toyota would use the better version on the Lexus instead on the Toyota since it's consider their luxury line.

newer disks also contain newer firmwares for the nav system.. i wonder if someone can get a hold of the 3.1 disk and use it in the gx.. the new disk will flash the new firmware on the nav system... just wonder if the navigation system will accept the disk or reject it.. or try and flash and fail...
