I am new to the GX and am exploring options for handsfree cell phone installs. Can the bluetooth setup from the LX work in a GX? Any better ways to integrate a handsfree with the vehicle? Thanks

There is no factory bluetooth phone option for the GX470 right now, but there are a few third party options if you are interested in going that route. A recent thread discussed this in the electronics forum:

In my GX470, I have the Parrot CK3000 installed with the mute wire connected and an external speaker for phone audio (I interface to the ML system with the mute wire only). It works very well for me with good sound quality. The kit plus a local install probably was about $500 last year.
Good Luck,
Tony

Thanks Tony. That sounds similar to the install I had for a Mercedes. Does anyone have a diagram of the Levinson wiring that shows which wire is the mute wire (usually goes to ground when phon in use)?

HJK3 - I don't recall which wire was the mute wire offhand. My installer didn't have any ML docs and figured it out though (probably by trial and error, I dunno for sure).
Cap - The installer I used was:
Handsfree Solutions
810 Los Vallecitos Blvd
San Marcos, CA 92069
(760) 761-0066
Good service, and the best part was that it was a mobile install, completed in the parking lot at my job. I contacted La Jolla Audio at first...nice guys and all, but they wanted a lot of money for the install (and I had to take my car to La Jolla for the day).
Not sure what you want to see in a picture? I'd be happy to take a picture if it would help you out. The control unit is behind the center console (accessed by the passenger seat left side kick panel), the controls are on the switch blank by the 2nd Start button, the microphone is by the drivers dome light, and the external speaker is on the passengers right side kick panel. Is this what you wanted to know?
Later,
Tony

I called Handsfree Solutions. They now use a different Bluetooth receiver. It's all voice activated and hands free when making calls.
Best Buy in Torrance wants $200 for the Parrot CK 3000 and another $165 for extra parts and labor.
Today I switched over from AT&T to Cingular and picked up a Motorola V600 Cell Phone. I needed the new phone which has Bluetooth capabilities.
As you may know, Cingular just bought AT&T. I was able to keep my old numbers and now have a better plan for the same price, plus I got a good deal on the new phone.

Below is a picture of the Motorola Blue Tooth Car Kit to go along with the Motorola V600 phone. The microphone is attached to the Rain Sensor.

Cap,
That is a beautiful install. How do you like the bluetooth for dialing in the truck? By the way, the mute wire is a black/white stripe wire that goes to the plug in the back of the radio.

Good to hear others having success with BT. As an FYI - AT&T has had Bluetooth compatibilty for nearly a year now. They offer it on their GSM system. I moved from GSM to TDM and was able to keep my same plan not did not have to sign up for any additional contracts at the time. I have a Seimens S56 BT compliant phone and use it in my 04TL as well as via the Jabra BT200 wireless headset. AT&T had BT and GSM well before Cingular. PS - I do contract work for the service provider group of AT&T

Cost of the Seimen was anywhere from $259 to $99 depending on how hard you dig on the internet. The $99 price did require a "new contract" but since AT&T was LITERALLY going through EXTREME conversion issues with their GSM network back then, I was able to get the BT compatible S56 for that same $99 as a "customer retention" issue. I didn't use any of my contracting connections in getting my phone at that price so essentially anyone could do it. Wireless companies will do "almost" anything to keep you as a client. The Jabra headset was $79 online (search for BT200 it may be even cheaper now). The 04TL was a few more $$$'s....
