I took my visiting relatives to meet my buddies for some ATV riding this weekend over at Pismo Beach. Turned out that the conditions was not ideal to ride on the dunes that day. The winds was so strong and sand was getting blown everywhere. The wind carried so much sand that you can see mini dunes form in a matter of minutes!.
So as a consolation, I took them out to the dunes on the GX. I lower the tire pressure down to 20psi. my friends lowered their Avalanche's tire down to 8psi. Driving on the dune was easy, the GX never gave any hint of losing traction even on slight up slope. I tried locking the center diff. but I couldn't tell the difference.
The hardest part of driving on the dunes is to watch where you are going. With the sand soiled windshield and sand flying around, It is really hard to tell where you are heading. Driving in the middle of the day didn't help too, the sun directly above didn't give you any sense of depth. The color of the sand have all the same hue. I nearly drove the GX to a 20ft drop because I just couldn't see the edge. Anyway here are the pictures!
