Default New GX Owner with Questions

We just brought our new black GX home. Nav with no RSES. I have a couple of questions:

How is the Nav system updated?
Can you disable the "beep" of the alarm?
Can the DVD player be retrofitted without using the overhead screen (would prefer headrest montiors)?

Thanks!

Nav is on a DVD. THe unit is under the front passenger seat.

I'm not sure how Toyota does it, but I have an Acura TL and I just bought the new DVD from Alpine/Navtech who manufacture the Hnoda/Acura systems.

The cost was $180 for the new DVD. Since I just bought my Land Cruiser in January, I figure I'm OK for a little while.

Don't know about the Beep since mine doesn't do that.

As for the retrofit, I'm sure it can be done, just go to a decent stereo shop. I have the overhead system myself.

Welcome! Lesson #1... search the forum.

1) Buy the DVD when a new version comes out (I think once a year or so). A couple posts a while back talked about typical update release times and cost.

2) Yes, the 'beep' can be changed. The owner's manual mentions it. I can't remember if the book tells you how to do it or just says "ask the dealer". Just ask the dealer on your next visit and they with change it for you. There are a few other things that can be changed on the GX as well. A discussion a while back had a file with all the options.

3) Yes. There have been a few threads about this. A recent one had some nice pics of headrests that were used.

Good luck! You're gonna love your new toy...

The programming for the locks should be in your manual. It was for my Land Cruiser. There are four different ways to progam them and the manual explains how to do it.

I had the dealer change the openning of ALL the doors with a single click.

It may not have been in the GX forum, and I know for sure it was in the GS forum, but that may have even been on the OLD clublexus ezboard site from 98. In any event ask your dealer what the C-BEST settings that are avaialble to be changed and they should hook you up.

There's the beep, the double or single click to unlock, the auto unlock in park, the 5 sec press to open wthe windows using your key to toggle between tilt or slide on the roof, lots and lots of options.
