Default Is this normal?

Going down a long hill at over 50+ mph, apply the brakes and you can feel the transmission down shift from 5th gear to 4th gear assisting the braking. If the brakes are (eased on) then it does not downshift, but if I apply more pressure then it downshifts, I never feel it downshifting below 4th and it does not do it under around 50 mph. Is this normal? This is my first 5 speed automatic with this much VDC, TC, and other computer control equipment for traction and everything communicating in milliseconds. It has done this since new and I have around 4K miles on it. Thanks for your replies.

Yes, this is normal. Mine does it as well. I didn't realized, however, that they amount of pressure applied to the breaks whlie going down hill determines whether or not it will down shift. I'll have to watch that.

Yes, I've found that if you lightly press on the brake and slow it doesn't downshift. Problem is you really have to be trying to watch it. Thanks for the response.
