Also take into consideration whether you live in a socialist police state (<cough> california <cough>) where they require you to have the license plate on the front. The license plate on the front bumper is ugly enough. What would the sport bumper look like with the license plate smack-dab in the middle of it?? Anyone have a pic of this?

The sport bumper really sticks out from the regular bumper and a license plate on top of that has to be double ugly. I went 14 years on a '85 Supra, 13 years on a '91 Legend and 5 years on a '99 GS400 with no front license plate. The CHP stopped me in the Legend for speeding and the GS for front window tint. Fortunately in both cases, the CHP never walked to the front of either car. I still have the dealer paper plates on the '04 ES330 bought in September and the 04 GX bought in February. It's about time to mount the plates since the 2005s are coming out now. Lack of plates saved me from a parking ticket on the GX because my wife put money in the wrong parking meter and the windshield heat shield was covering the VIN number. Neither will have front plates, which is really beginning to push my luck with the need for increases in local funding.

I don't think Jesse got quite this far west Anyway, I don't know what part of Florida you live in but for a lot of people it will be time to batten down the hatches soon. Looks like my favorite fishing place, the Lower Keys, will be getting some of Charley. Hope your Mako stays out of harm's way.

huh, if i decide to have the bumper, no problem for me cuz i don't place front plates on my gx! huh, i have 50% front tint on my other car, so breaking a minor law is not new for me!

I feel ya! I never start out with the front plates on either. But both of my other cars got pulled over for it in the past 18-months! I talked to some law enforcement folks I know and they said California is cracking down on the "little" things, like front plates and tint, that they previously only used as an excuse if they wanted to hassle someone. Now my Acura has the front plate and they made me strip the front tint

My @#$! Lexus dealer screwed the front plate on when they delivered it to me. Tried to take it off but they actually had to screw the holes directly into the bumper. At least Acura used a bottom mounted piece that could come off without leaving marks.

WOW! what area do u live in? cuz here in central california , fresno, we've got the law in every shaded corner, but nobody gets pulled over just for tint or front plates. they usually stop you if u r speeding. one time i got pulled over cuz i didnt put my seatbelt on fast enough though(that was when i was in my rx300, but they never did that in my other car, the honda!

The Lexus front bumpers have four small depressions for the drilling of license plate mounting holes. I always tell my salesperson to hang a sign on the rear view mirror telling the techs not to drill the holes during pre-delivery prep.

hmm, weird, here in central cal, Fresno Lexus will ask u first if you want the front plates or not. does anyone know if there is like some kind of frame behind the bumper in where the dealer only needs to drill the 2 holes and just screw in the plate? (cuz with rounded bumpers like the rx, I remember that my Rx300 used to have like a frame outside the bumper and the new ones have the frame in the trunk).

Well, you know that California requires the front license plate so dealers, like Magnussen Lexus, mounts the front plate holder even on their inventory vehicles. They just drill the top two holes for mounting, not all four.

ohhh, i see. your dealer wants their customers to stay "legal". hmm still strange. i bought a Lexus down south once, at Tustin Lexus, they didnt drill the hole right away until i told them to. i guess it depends on the dealer itself. I think in different states, they automatically place front plates, becuz when i drove up to vancouver B.C., when i passed oregon and washington, all the cars had front plates!!! the only ones i saw without them were the tourists, FROM CALIFORNIA! so i guess we get away with a lot of things here in california!!lol
