Default Suspension - Slight scraping sound - TSB?

When I hit a sharp bump (like a recessed manhole cover) with the front driver's side wheel, I hear a very slight scraping noise. I don't hear it when I hit sharp bumps with the right wheel. When I go over "smoother" bumps or wavy roads, I hear nothing, no matter how much the suspension travels.

I found a TSB dated Aug. '03 titled something like "suspension squeak when hitting sharp bumps". It sounds about right, except that:

1. I'm not sure I'd call the noise I'm hearing a squeak (though I don't want to argue about semantics) and

2. More importantly, my GX was built in April '04, so I would expect it to have the "fix" on it, unless this TSB outlines a routine service procedure and does not require replacement of any parts.

Any thoughts on this? Has anybody had this TSB done? I'd be interested in knowing what it entails before calling the dealer...

the only sound i hear from the suspension, is when i go up like a steep driveway , the transition from the road into the ramp, sounds like the tires skid, right? well if it's not, mine's different!

The sqeak is caused by the contact between the rubber bump stop and the front lower control arm. From the TSB, lexus will change the bump stop rubber to a different compound which will cure the sqeak. I had mine fixed and it hasn't sqeaked since.

What you can do to isolate the problem is put a dab of MP grease on the lower control arm where the bump stop contacts. If the sqeak goes away then it's the bump stops if not then it's something else. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Charleston

Hi Charleston, thanks for your reply. When you had the problem, was the noise only on the driver's side of the truck?

I just think it's so strange that it only happens under sharp impact and only on the left side...

if i were you guyz, I wouldn't sweat it. It's a minor thing that we can live with, compared to the problems we've dealed/dealing with.
