I usually go to Hungry Valley http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=405 it's only about 1hr drive north from Ventura Ca. It's cheap $5 and you can go through all their trails, the trails are farily wide so you can turn around if ever it gets too crazy.
I'm planning to go to Hollister Hills http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=404 this coming thanks giving located in central California. This off road thing is very addicting. Maybe I should get a beater FJZ80!!!
