Thumbs up 2005 GX will be home tomorrow (12-08-04)

Just received a call from the dealer. My baby will be in tomorrow morning, ready for pickup at noon. I also order a 6000k HID kit from xenondepot

Congratulations. You might be the first one among us with 2005 GX. Give us your feedback after a few miles. Thanks.

Dave,
I sure will. My first task will be to install the Xenondepot HID kit, probably this weekend.

Thanks

Default Baby is home

Took delivery of my 2005 GX today as scheduled. It came with Michelin Cross-Terrain tires

Looking forward to enjoying it!

Congrat's. Glad you got the Michelin's. I think its a crime that all GX's don't come with the Cross-Terrains, they are twice the tire that the Dunflops and Brigestones are and if you look at the cost of replacing them the Michelins cost 2X's as much.

Default This thread is worthless without....

PICS!!! I haven't seen any black/Ivory GX's around here at all (Lots of dark blue though). Would love to see some pictures! Please post ASAP. Have you tried the bluetooth? Is the power much different? So many questions. So little time. I guess your probably out driving your baby now so I will have to leanr patience!

FYI - My 04 came with the Michelin's as well (Picked up up last month so it is a late build). Maybe all later model 04's were Michelins?

I think so. All the GX's I've seen on the lot from the last few months had the Cross Terrains.

Thumbs up

Thanks Luckylex .

For those who thought the Regular vs.Premium debate was over ............well not so fast. Even though Lexus website states Octane 91 is the required gas for 05's, the owner's manual clearly states:

"Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended "

Bottom line, 05 GX will run just fine with Octane 87 Which I intend to use of course

ORCLEX - Congrats again on your new baby and I bet your still smiling!

In regards to the Type of Fuel issue, I would assume that when you buy a $50K+ SUV with poor gas mileage, the cost of fuel would not be your top priority and you would just fill up with with Premium / Super all the time to baby your vehicle and make sure it gets the best. Sure people will say there is no need to pay the higher price for Premium and your GX can run just as good on regular, but premium is the cleanest grade gasoline and I would only want the best for my GX to have it continue to run at it's best. If the cost of gas was a major issue, I would get a RX400 Hybrid for the better gas mileage, however even then I'd still fill up on Premium / Super gas.

This is just my opinion, since I remember someone else stating the negative that the 2005s could only use Premium fuel and myself thinking, what's the big deal?

The 4.7-liter V8 delivers world-class smoothness and quietness. At highway cruising speeds, the V8 is barely audible. It delivers good power with strong torque for towing, 270 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. As heavy as it is, the GX 470 is no slouch in the performance department, capable of full-throttle sprints from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.1 seconds, with a nice V8 intake roar to go with it. If you're towing anything up to its limit of 5000 pounds, this truck will handle it with ease. The bad news is that, even if you try hard, you'll probably never achieve 20 miles per gallon. For 2005, the V8 gets the company's VVT-i (variable-valve timing with intelligence) for improved efficiency and response at all engine speeds. VVT-i also helps the GX 470 run cleaner, earning the government's more stringent ULEV-II (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) rating for 2005. The GX 470 requires 91 octane (or higher) gasoline and rates an EPA-estimated City/Highway 15/19 mpg.
