Default Fluid changes

After going through the maintenance manual for my 05 I am a bit confused - unless I'm going crazy it appears you never need to change the transmission, transfer case and front/rear differential fluids unless you tow constantly or drive on dirt roads??? Also it appears the coolant doesn't need to be changed for 100k miles. Could this be true? If so, why did the dealer give me their "specialized" maintenance booklet that has them changing all of these items on a regular basis?

Marc,

Is this the same maintenance schedule the dealer showed you? https://www.clublexus.com/index.php/...331/2003ms.pdf

My GX have 30,000 miles on it and here is how I maintain it.

Oil Change with Mobil1 synthetic every 5000 miles

Rotate tires every 10,000 miles

Flush brake fluid every year

Flush engine coolant every 2 years

Change F&R Diffs, transfer and ATF fluid every 25,000 miles

Drive shaft re grease every 15,000 miles

Looking forward to do the following maintenance

Adjust valve clearance 50,000

Change spark plugs 75,000

Change accessory belts 75,000 - 100,000

Filters and wear (ex. brake pads, wiper blades) items I inspect regularly and change or clean as needed.

These trucks are like tanks and don't need very elaborate maintenance if operated in normal conditions.

Regards,
Charleston

They use a special fluid that never needs to be changed. That's what I read here on the forums anyway.

The only exception is if the vehicle is used for towing, or off road, etc. Things most of us would consider outside the norm.

No Charleston, that's not what they gave me - it was more of a "customized" booklet the dealership made up.

Based on the relative lack of responses I'm wondering what everyone else is planning to do as far as these items?

I agree with what you are saying - I just wonder how many people are actually going to follow the Lexus manual's advice or their dealer's advice??

That is what the Toyota/Lexus owners manual states for 2004/2005's. The dealer makes money selling you service you don't need. I like to have the diff's and transfer case changed at 30K (just to get the wear metals out). The Transmission uses a special/only sold by Toyota/Lexus WS ATF, if your transmission isn't leaking and you don't tow/off road then it does not require service. The antifreeze is a 100K mile antifreeze and should not need to be changed until you get to 100K miles. Just have the oil/filter changed and grease job every 5000 miles and every other OCI rotate the tires, and you should be OK. By the way the Spark plugs that come in the 4.7 V8 are good for 125K miles, if they are changed sooner you are just waiting your money. Also the valves don't need to be adjusted.
