Default Windshield Crack

There is a crack on my '04 GX's windshield that looked to have developed from some sort of stress fracture. It started from the top edge of the windshield and extended down about 4". It has grown about 2" as the car was driven in the last couple of days. It was not hit by a rock or any object and I did not take it off road; it just occurred suddenly. Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm not sure the warranty would cover this since the dealer's service rep will blame it on some impact fracture. It is weird!

Im from NY and have full glass coverage, something small could have hit it, a pebble or small rock, does not take much to chip or crack the windsheild, and the heat just expands it.

See what the dealer says, could have been a factory defect, I've seen afew GX get new windshield right off the truck, don't go after market the cheaper stuff will break sooner, their are certain aftermarket companies that produce OEM quality glass but I don't know them off hand.

Your insurance should cover it, certain Insurance companies actually allow up to 3-5 windsheilds a year

I have seen this several times on various vehicles. If it shows absolutely no signs of being hit by a rock or other object, then it's likely a "stress crack". If it is a stress crack, the manufacturer warranty should cover it.

Thanks. The dealer has replaced the windshield. While not ready outright admit that it happens, they sort of implied that they have seen it in other vehicles.

I guess you got lucky. My windshield cracked and the crack growed, I wound up paying half the cost of the windshield... I am not sure if it was a rock or whatnot... I live in northern NJ and lately have had to fight the dealer on things... BTW: they have replaced my rotors what 2-3 times now.. hmmm brakes seem to be an issue here in NY or jsut on this car... I am thinking of trading my first generation GX for the 2005 model as there are some problems that never got ironed out... BTW: Toyota glass is THINNER then most vehicles and brakes easily. Its a well known problem, that dealers are aware of

if u plan on getting an 05, my service rep says that the issues of the 03 can still be found on some 04s and 05s.

wait for the second generation, maybe they'll offer hybrid by then!!

Someones really working the brakes to have them already replaced 2-3 times It seems like many cars are having brake issues, maybe it has to due with larger heavier vehicles with the same brake as lighter cars years ago, the brakes especially with plastic lines is pathetic and the rotors look like recycled aluminum cans.

and to think, Toyota/Lexus is the better quality vehicles, can't imagine the other stuff
