Default Looking to buy a used GX470 - need some help

My wife and I are looking for a used GX470, what kind of problem areas should we look at. We've been looking at some 03 and 04s, we want to make sure we get the best deal possible. I know how to check the main areas (i manage a auto repair shop) as far as mechanical and body damage. But want to know if there are any areas where the GX470 are known for problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

After 10K miles in our `04 Silver Pine Metallic GX470 I can only report immense satisfaction with this truck. It's my wife's daily driver and her only complaint thus far after almost 1 year of driving has been the gas consumption - this truck sucks it down! I drive an `04 SC430 and an `05 A4 2.0T Quattro and, to me, the GX is the most comfortable of the three. Things I love about the GX: power/torque, all-wheel-drive, quiet/comfort, roominess, rear storage (even with the third-row seats in fold-up and stowed position), rear-view camera. I also love the looks of this truck.

I haven't had any problems with my truck. Since the 03's and 04's are under warranty, be sure and ask to see all the servicing documentation for the truck you are interested in. I would strongly recommend a 2004 because of the backup camera and if you get real lucky, one with KDSS.

Nice to hear good things about it, makes us feel better. I also love the looks, main reason we are buying this over a FX45.

Check out the Lexus GX470 site below and there's a description of the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. That's a mouthful. There are posts on this forum discussing KDSS.

well some main problems that YOU may encounter (in either an 03 or 04) would be the clunk and vibration.

I guess we've been lucky insofar as our GX hasn't experienced either of these occurrences.

Default Id stay with the 04 and up

I would get the 04 GX and up due to upgraded electronics. The 04 added rear view cameras. My 04 has the thump at stop lights once in 75 or so stops but it is so little of a thump that it does not bother me. I have no vibrations at any speed and I average 80mph on the highways. Great truck you will love it. my mpg is 16.3 in city and 25 on highway pretty good for a v8. My old Acura MDX with 6 cylinders got 15 city and 15 highway.
