My GX has an annoying hesitation when it downshifts under normal driving condition. The motor stumbles and then goes. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does the engine actually stumble or just seem to pause a bit before everything kicks in? My GX is my 4th Lexus and they all seem to have this extra long pause when trying to downshift, even my GS400 did that, and it is the sport sedan of the bunch. It is annoying, but normal for Lexus.
If the engine is stumbling or sputtering on downshift, I would guess you have something else going on which is beyond my limited mechanical knowledge.
