Extended Warranty for GX
I just purchased my very first Lexus GX470 5 days ago. This is the best car I have even had and ride better than the Jaguar VDP that I had before.
The dealer quoted me $2,650 for the 7yr/100,000 mile extended warranty. Should I purchase it? How firm is that price? Will I get a better quote by shopping around different Lexus dealership?
Thanks

you don't need to buy it now ,you can always get it at the end of the factory warraty .and by that time you w'll know if you keeping the GX or if you going to trade it for the new GX at the time .Thats what I goes do with my cars. we bought a 03 ML 320 kept it for only 2 years (all we have was problems with this truck),we bought a brand new 98 navigator we only kept it for 3 years (best American truck we had),we had a new 99 honda accord we only kept it for 2 years and my baby 99 GS400 I only kept that for 2years.

I highly doubt you'll spend a third of that on your new Lexus in that time frame. The GX comes with a great warranty, and the Lexus brand has proved itself to be a solid vehicle. I bought my GS with 60,000 miles on it and only paid $800 for a 2 year 85,000 mile warranty. The car now has 75,000 miles and I’m yet to make up my $800.
Just my 2C.

I would say don't buy it.
Here is my reasoning.
I have had 2 Lexs in the past and although both cars were nice, one had more problems than I had anticipated, while the other was for the most part trouble free.
My First Lexus was a 91 LS400. I bought it used. with about 35,000 miles and was under the initial warranty. I did buy the extended at the time because it was my first purchase of a used car and I had no idea how reliable this car would be.
From the first few months that I had it, it went to the shop about once every other month.
Even after the initial warranty was over, I still had reoccuring problems. Everything was covered but it was still a PITA to take it to the dealer.
My current 98 ES300 has been a good experience. No major problems during the initial warrranty and after the warranty period expired. It currently has 187,000+ miles on it.
Therefore, if you have a car with a lot of problems before the initial warranty expires, sell it.
If the car is trouble free, then the odds are that it will stay trouble free or the cost of any repairs will be less than the $2600 up to the 100,000 mark. YMMV.
Good luck.
