The antenna in that spot will no doubt let water in over time. A better location would be on the roof at the rear of the vehicle. No doubt the installer was to lazy to do the job properly. Remember most of these guys are paid by the job, not hourly, so the sooner they get the job done, its on to the next money making job.

This has been posted elsewhere by another member, but I'll tell you my experience.
I have an '05 GX470. I asked the dealer to install XM Radio using the LX470 Kit. They pulled one off the shelf, did the install - and voila - it did not work!
I read on another thread that '06 XM Radio kits didn't work with the GX470. I told this to the dealer. He found an '05 kit (as of Dec. 2005) and installed it instead - presto - everything worked fine!
I'm very happy with the install job - neat with antenna on top of roof just next to the rear fender. The NAV integration is great, save for the concatenation of the text data to 10 characters.
Reception in bad weather (currently lots of storms around SF) was perfect. Also, no interference whatsoever with nav functionality (there had been a rumor).
To get the ID for activation (XM) just turn to channel 000. For those who don't know - yes, there are three pages of six satellite presets, but you can go through all the channels one by one by simply turning the ****. Also, you can scan/search by type of content - i.e. select "rock" and it will scan through all rock channels. Pretty cool.
