Default Is the GX an "overlooked" model in the lineup? (m)

Getting ready to purchase one in all liklihood when it hit me-- Why hadn't I, an admitted car nut and enthusiast, familiar with most of what's out there, heard of the GX until just recently?
In fact, most people I know looked a bit puzzled when I showed them the brochure. Most said "What is that?" or "I didn't know Lexus made such a thing?". Almost all had seen/heard of the RX (a rather overly feminine car IMHO) and even the monstrous and, to me, overpriced LX.
Is buying a a GX getting entry into an exclusive club, or does Lexus view it sort of like something they really don't know what to do with? Even salespeople sometimes seemed a bit puzzled looking at a GX in a sea of ES/GS and RX models.
Maybe I am waaaay far afield here, as it is 1130pm, but I can't help but wonder why it is apparently not all that well know. Hmmmmmm........

The GX has only been out 3 years, it is Lexus' newest SUV and the best one in my opinion.

i love it when people ask me if the GX just came out! i think you don't hear too much about them because the lack of advertising (like it needs it anyway), the limited numbers produced(at least more limited than most other suvs), and the price.

I love the anonymity. I could go a whole month around here and never see another GX. Thats fine with me.

It was huge when it first came out. Got all kinds of nods from motor trend and mojor ones from truck trend.

Don't know what to tell you. Certainly well known and popular around here (Austin).

"The GX 470 has enjoyed robust sales since its introduction with 2,190 units in the fall of 2002; 31,376 in 2003; 35,420 in 2004; and 24,335 through September 2005. The GX has trailed only the RX 330 and ES 330 in annual sales amongst the Lexus brand."

That's just short of 100,000 thru Sept!
