Default Help Needed with 6500lb weight distributing hitch

Hello all, having problems with gettting the hitch that was supposed to be installed at the port on my 06 GX. Upon delivery, no hitch, but I was assured that it would be taken care of. What "taken care of" turned out to be is a 5000lb tow / 500lb tounge "curt" hitch being installed, it's an ugly little bugger that is well enough engineered to block the electrical outlet so I cannot use my electric brake/light converter. Not that that's a problem either, because I cant tow the 6200lb boat ANYWAY with this POS hitch.

I called the parts dept to see if they have the weight distributing piece in stock, and funny enough I got the same guy who had blown me off a few weeks earlier when I called asking about Sirius, (which I have had installed and works perfectly). This guy is a PRO at dusting customers off the phone, I HATE you parts man! He told me that the ONLY way to get a GX470 hitch is to have it installed at the port. If only I had... Wait a sec....

I have read the 8 or so pages on GX470 hitches on this forum, but to be honest, I ended up with more questions than answers. I think I know what piece I need, an "under the bumper" lexus hitch that bolts to both sides of the frame as well as the hitch mount for weight distribution. From what I've read, this kit also relocates the factory electrical outlet.

Does anyone have a picture of this part?
Does anyone have a part number?
Does anyone know a dealer who will ship it to me?
Does anyone find humor in that 2/3's of the reason I bought this truck was for the extra 1500lbs of towing over my perfectly good, loaded, mint, QX4 which I now gave to my fiance' and have ZERO chance in gettign back, AND now I have the EXACT SAME towing ability after spending ALOT of money? (I do, a little)

Please help, before my brain melts... Thanks

I have a photo of the hitch on my '04 that I can email you, since it's too big to upload. Please PM me with your email if interested. I'll also check to see if I can find a part number anywhere.

In the meantime, would you mind sharing which dealer in MA is giving you a hard time? It's always good to know. I have dealt with a very helpful parts guy at a local dealer, and I'd be happy to send you his info, assuming he's still at the same dealer.

The correct 6500 lb. hitch is part number - PT228-60540. It bolts to the GX with 12 bolts. And yes, the electrical connector gets relocated to the hitch. I did a swap on the one from my 05 to the 06 a couple of days ago, so I know it well. It installs pretty easily. And I did it by myself while laying down on the garage floor.

Evil, Im in the same boat ( no pun ). Im looking to purchase a GX mostly for its towing ability. I tow a 12' motorcycle trailer. I hope its not too hard to get the right parts to get the max towing capacity from this vehicle.

BobsGX, is there going to be any problem picking up that 6500lb hitch from Lexus or even Toyota? Its bad enough that the I wont be able to open the rear door when Im hooked up to my trailer. WE shouldnt have a problem with something so minor as a Tow Hitch.

You can order the hitch from www.lexus-parts.com
Look under 2005 GX470 since they haven't updated the 2006 GX470 info yet. The same hitch fits both the 05 and 06 years.
