Default Factory orders: Looking for experiences/details (more)

As some her may know, I've ordered an '06 GX pretty much loaded in Blizzard white w/ an Ivory interior. Because I've also added KDSS the truck is a hard one to find. At best.

In an effort to get one as quickly as possible the dealer has both "allocated" one AND "factory ordered" a second. The idea is see what gets here first. I am told the order can take a good 3 months. Damn...........

My questions are simple- What experience do people have with factory orders? What can I expect? Any help/suggestions/input is welcome.

Jim

Hopefully, the Lexus order system has improved but back in Oct. 1997, I had my dealer place a factory order for a 1998 GS400 in white with a gray interior. As is similar to now, for some reason, Lexus dealers almost always order the ivory interior with the white exterior. My dealers sales manager told me it would be about 12 weeks, but my salesman told me later that he's seen factory orders in reality take 16-24 weeks. That was to long of a wait so I purchased another vehicle from another manufacturer. Hopefully yours will not take that long but be prepared.

12 weeks isn't too bad--it took that long for my wife's Sienna and a good 8-10 weeks for my previous BMWs. Perhaps they can modify a truck already scheduled for production/delivery and tailer it to my needs. Seems faster than shipping it 1/2 way around the world..... Or, maybe I'll get even luckier and they'll find one via "Allocation", although I am not quite sure what that it. Geez- you'd think that with all the pro KDSS stuff in the brochures and ads that they'd be a bit more common.
Anyone out there with more recent experiences??

When I ordered my '04 GX, it took about 6-weeks to arrive. I don't remember if it was an "allocated" one or direct factory order, though. I didn't have KDSS either.

My dealer said that the way they do production rotations in the factory you could luck out and get one within a month or it could take a few months. It depends on where you hit them in the rotation. I don't know all the "rotation" details, this is just what I was told.
