GX Speaker Advice Needed
I have a 2004 GX470.
I like loud rock music.
Everyday to and from work..... I crank up my Def Leppard, Van Halen, Aersomith,
Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and even Kenny Chesney.
My speakers seem to have a hum or vibration now.
I don't think the speaker or speakers are actually blown, but I think I may need
to upgrade to something that can take the higher volumes.
I blew my speakers in my Jeep Cherokee before I had the GX.
I am not handy, so I could not install anything myself.
My question is.....should I attempt to upgrade through Lexus so the stuff will all fit and
work right ........
or go to one of these high end custom car stereo shops and have them put
something better in?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Do you have the upgraded Mark Levinson audio? If so, they should be able to handle it just fine. I crank it up as well. Except for a faulty tweeter that started humming back when I first got the GX, I have not had any issues.
Regarding your question, there is no need to go through Lexus. Any good shop can tell you what fits in the existing GX speaker locations. You can also check a Crutchfield catalog (or crutchfield.com). They are excellent about showing if the gear fits a specific car.
If you want a simple speaker swap, you could probably do it yourself on a Saturday. Crutchfield even gives you directions on how to take apart your specific vehicle to access the speakers. If you want something custom, or just don't want to spend the time, then have a good shop do it.
(Sorry for the specific company plug... I was once really into car audio and did many installs. At the time, Crutchfield provided the best info and support for do-it-yourselfers.)

Thanks SacKen.
I too have been a Crutchfield customer.
But I must have someone besides me actually do any install.
I am lucky to be able to put gas in the tank!.....LOL
I don't think I have the "Mark Levinson sound system", although I will check.
I think I will go to a custom shop as you advise.
Thanks again.

I must say I'm not a fan of stock sound systems, but the Mark Levinson is probably the best I have ever heard in a vehicle including many pimped out custom installs. It is very clean, does not distort at high volumes and can really put out tight clean bass.
