Anyone have the extended warranty ?
#2
Well, I decided to buy a lexus because of the Certified Pre-Owned warranty. I am glad I did. Fact is this is a car, and things will go wrong no matter who builds it. I had a squeal coming from the A/C fan, I thought they could oil the bearing and be done, nope. They replaced the whole fan unit. I asked how much this would have cost if it was out of pocket: Total with labor and parts $990!! I'm sure this is mostly because of the Lexus luxury brand mark up. There are alot of things that could need fixing on this truck so I say get the warranty.

Tipler,
I went for the Lexus Platinum Warranty for an extra 3 years right before my 4 year factory warranty ended this past November. Cost was $1,600. They also quoted me that the same warranty for our GX was around $2,000. The $3,000 you were quoted seems a bit high.
Oh, I already took advantage of the extended warranty on my RX. The plastic case on the key cracked last week when I stuck it in the ignition and turned it. The electronic key FOB on the inside fell completely out.
It was covered under the Platinum warranty. Cost of the key replacement and reprogamming was $250....yikes!!!

In late December I bought my GX and the dealer brought up purchasing the extended warranty. I don't remember the exact figure, but it was under $2,000. He also stated we could buy it at any time before the standard warranty runs out. That means I can buy it at 47,990 miles, the only difference is buying later would cost $200 more than at day 1. He gave me this in writing. I declined purchasing the extended warranty at this time since I rarely keep a vechicle for 4 years, but I think it speaks volumes about Lexis management's belief in their product's reliability. Mercedes makes you buy their extended warrant before 12 months are up and VW at the time of purchase only. A friend's A/C went out on a BMW 745 and it cost $1,800.00 so I'll be buying a warranty at 47,000 miles if I still have the GX.

Where did you buy your warranty for $1600? Is that a 7 year, 100000 miles with $50 deductable? $1600 is a good price. My dealer wanted $2600 which is crazy. I had a loaded 4runner limited which is basically the same vehicle mechanically and optional equipment wise and the warranty was only $1200. In my opinion, the Lexus warranty is way over price.

I dont have the ML stereo upgarde, it comes with the nav option only. I didnt need the nav since I have a portable unit already. The nav and the ML cost $2800 if I remember right, not a bad price for both of those options. I almost bought the nav and ML combo even though I didnt need the nav, the ML system was that good . After listening to the base Pioneer system, I decided the Pioneer was good enough and save $3000. The GX without the Nav in the right color was hard to find. It seems like Lexus makes 99% of the GX with the Nav.
