They gave me a whole new one about 3 weeks ago when I told them they could have $55K.
My point was that I have a new 2006 GX470 that already has the clunk.

Do a search on prop shafts, clunk whatever. It has been discussed here for nearly thee years now. It's fixable, I guarantee. At one time I even posted the number of the service bulletin.
Mine has been fixed and that was two years ago

if anyone does a search on the clunk, most likely it's from me.

besides, if i havent mentioned it before, the clunk, IMO, isn't caused by the driveshaft. it's coming from the air suspension constantly changing it's height position. you may not notice (and u won't see the light changing on the tach) but the clunk comes out when changing the height. how did i come to this conclusion? well one time, i was at a stop light and felt like playing around with the height. so i changed it and lowered it. then i felt "clunk" "clunk" and then it went down. then i raised it up and got another "clunk" .

I had the clunk on both my 03 4R and 05 GX. The GX was not really that evident. I lubed the slipjoint on the rear driveshaft at every service and sometimes in between. The GX with 14K miles does not have it and neither the 4R at 55k miles. I now lube the 4R every 10k miles and the GX every 5K. The GX will be more prone to clunking and also the 4R with rear air suspension due to more rear axle movement. However it seems the key is to actually lube these things yourself. Takes 5-6 pumps of Moly NGLi-2 grease with a full size gun and its done.
In my experience the clunk will come back initially after 1-2k miles, I just lube again at that time. After some more miles it gets less and less till now it is gone with consistent lubing in the beginning. It seems some dealers just don't lube the slipjoint consistently. Both the Toyota and Lexus dealer would tell me they did it or look at me like I'm from outer space when I ask them to do it. As with many things in life it seems if you want it done right, do it yourself.
At least I'm happy and clunk free now. Have some of you guys actually lubed it yourself and kept doing it every 2k miles till it stopped?
