The other hitch replaces the bracket that is there, I wouldn't be so worried about downward force from a bike rack - the thing is good for 4-500 pounds, but if I was pulling a trailer I would be more worried about the force a 6000 trailer pulling on the bumper would do, then you would want something right to the frame.

BTW, do all the hitches require removing the plastic part of the bumper in the middle? I think I have seen a slightly notched version of the bumper, but my 06 does not come with that - just straight across.

For 2006GX, you do not need to remove the bumper cover - although it is a bit different than earlier models....
by the way, in terms of bike racks saw both Thule and Yakima today - you can go to .COM for both sites and compare. The couple of bike shops I visited said both are comparable brands and very good - same price points and most bikes can fit on them - men/ women/ kids.
