As some here may have followed, I ordered a GX loaded with KDSS and pretty much everything else way back in November. After hearing that they omitted RSES they then tried to "renegotiate" our signed deal as I set forth here at length. Seems they thought they gave me too good of a deal on the truck and the trade. Suffice it to say I pretty much hit the roof and was prepared to "go nuclear", bu in the end cooler heads prevailed on their end and they largely honored the deal.
Drove it home for 200 miles with my wife and Imust say it is quite a vehicle! Very solid, very smooth and surprisingly quiet. Only during string wind gusts did it get a bit louder. And, after 10+ years of German cars (4 BMWs and most recently an MB E500) I thought it wouldn't want to cruise at 70-80. It did--a bit too easily! Had to be careful due to break in concerns, cops and the fact that my laser jammer is not installed. The V1 will likely go in tonite or so--can't drive without that! And, upon my return home I got an email from xenondepot stating that the 4300K kit is on the way. Sirius will be going in later this week once I get an external antenna.
So far so good- I'll try & post pics once I borrow a digital camera. Yes-- I have all these other toys, but still no digital camera. Just havn't found one I liked till recently and I am concerned about long term storage of images, but I digress.
Anyway, thanks to all here for the help & encouragment. I've had it hme for 20 mins and I am ALREADY on Toyota's TIS to make sure how the map light pops down for my radar detector hardwiring!

hahaha...congrats on the new ride.
Sounds like you already love it and I see you are wasting no time adding some mods.
LOL at not having a digital camera. There are so many people in the same boat. Got the nicest stuff in the world but dont have a camera.

As promised:
Congratulations on the new GX! Careful putting your foot down on the V8 - you can get whiplash!
We get high winds here and the tall height can get interesting, particularly at highway speeds - I was just about hanging onto the wheel a couple of weeks ago!
Enjoy your ride! Don't forget the pics.

Congrat JWS3, I must say, you earn this GX
. That is the most work I seen anybody do for a new car, but in the end, all your hard work pan out. Keep us posted on all your mods.

Congrats JWS3
You wasted no times on the additional upgrades to your GX, didn't you
?
Did the dealer go through the some of the functions/features of the GX with you?
I love the growl of the V8 when you step on the gas
You are now officially part of the GX family (until you get some pictures posted here)

Congratulations on your new GX470, JSW3!!! Enjoy reading your posts/suggestions/advice and felt really bad when I read about what happened with your dealer. Glad you sorted things out and finally got your vehicle!!!

I just got back from Vegas, so I hadn't been checking the forum for a while.
Anyway, Bully for you Jim. I so wanted to get the KDSS with the Ivory interior, but unlike you, I couldn't wait out the winter here in Upstate NY so I "settled" for one without KD since the wife detests the bird's eye maple.
Now to more important things: I, too, was thinking V1. But all the testing sites I visited seem to say that Escort and Bel may have better products. Especially given that you'll need accompanying laser protection.
Here are some sites. Tell me what ya think. Maybe we'll start a new thread for anyone else interested.

Before I forget-- read in today's paper that very soon the NYS troopers will NOT be allowed to pled down speeding tickets. Since most speed limits are set at the "inattentive, unskilled moron" level we New Yorkers need all the help we can get! i mean, really, does ANYONE excpet for a few doddering half dead souls ever drive 55, or even 65?
In any event, I am aware of these tests, but still go with V1. Why? Outstanding results, solid construction (uses a magnesium case) and great customer service. Plus-- they will upgrade units on a continuing basis. In any event, I am not totally convinced by these tests. Some sites have an ax to grind, so to speak, and are thought to sway results. I think, but can't recall 100%, but speedzones is thought to do this per conversations I've had with various mfgrs. I've got good luck here:

These aren't absolute, of course, but they are decent guides. Still, the arrows are very, very useful. Escort is OK at best. The guy who founded Valentine used to be there. The new Bel unit is good too. I just like the arrows, upgradability and solid construction. Been using a V1 for 12 years or so and am still satisfied.
As for laser, I am now leaning towards--get this-- a FOUR head Lidatek system for the front and 2 more in the back!! Nothing is perfect, but they use diodes as opposed to much less powerful LEDs. Seeing as how we have white SUVs we need all the help we can get and then some.
Curious-- where in NY do you live? I am in Dutchess county. Been lucky this winter-could have been far worse! I HATE winter--can't wait to get out of here, even though thats a good 16-20 yrs away.
Anyway, good to hear from you- Look forward to hearing back

Wow, do you remember the paper where you read that? Are you talking about pleading down at the time of initial infraction, or later with the DA?
I totally agree with you on the self-help issue. Just remember to read sites like radarjammers.com to make sure you don't buy something that doesn't deliver as promised. Especially with the GX and its nice flat front end just begging to reflect laser. GXers definitely have our jobs cut out for us here.
You are also aware, no doubt, that there is GREAT variability in the skill level of installers. Are you doing the installs yourself?
Anyway, I lived in the City all my life until moving Upstate, by Syracuse, last year for work that will last me a few years. That darn lake-effect snow nearly did in my rear-drive 645ci. So I know that you'll have no problems moving away from the German sedan. Did you have much quality issues with MB?
Had you thought of upgrading anti-theft? The stock alarm seems to leave much to be desired (e.g. no shock sensor, etc)
Anyway, make sure to keep me updated since it looks like we're both doing similar things.
