Default Break-In Period Question

Hey everyone,
I bought my 06 GX brand new. I asked the dealer about the break-in period for this car and he said that there is no break-in for the car. My cousin bought a new Infinit FX35 also and his dealer said that there is no break-in for his car also. Even though they said this, for the first thousand miles he varied the rpms and kept it under 4k rpms. So my question is should I keep it under 4k rpms and vary the rpms for the first 1k miles? thanks for any help

Yo man, i was told the same thing that there was no real break in period. I was told not to keep it at one constant speed for any lenght of time and thats about it. I didnt follow any other break-in rule othere than this and have had no problems at all.

Welcome.

Always try the owner's manual before asking people at the dealership, who don't bother to read them.

However, in this case he is right (and wrong). Lexus kind of waffles on this.

Anyway from pg 460 of my 2005 manual:

BREAK–IN PERIOD

Drive gently and avoid high speeds.

You need not follow a break–in schedule with your new Lexus.
But following a few simple tips for the first 1600 km (1000 miles)
can add to the future economy and long life of your vehicle:

- Avoid full throttle acceleration when starting and driving.
- Avoid racing the engine.
- Try to avoid hard stops during the first 300 km (200 miles).
- Do not drive for a long time at any single speed, either fast or slow.
- Do not tow a trailer during the first 800 km (500 miles).

So though Lexus states you do NOT need to follow a break-in schedule, what they have listed is exactly the same as what most people (and other manufacturers) call a break-in schedule!

That sounds like a break in period to me.
