Default Brakes are squeaking?!?!?!

i just broke 30K miles and my brakes are starting to squeal.... is this normal?? i dont consider myself a heavy braker nor do i short stop often, my mechanic says its common for SUV's and that to replace wit only OEM parts -pads & rotors- together at same time.... anyone else in the same boat, what do u guys think??

Sounds like its your brake pad wear indicator, its telling you that your brake pad is low. 30K miles seem low to have to replace brake pads. Then again, it really depends on what kind of driving you do, city or highway. I had a Jeep GC that was driven 70% city and I had to replace front rotors and pads at 35K. The GX is a heavier truck than the Jeep, so I guess 30K brake work is possible.

Well i recently Got my brakes Done... at 60k Miles.. 30k under any circumstances doesn't seem rite.. its too early... i mean lookin from ur location where u drive... its too early to replace brake pads.. unless calipers r jammed or something... Have the Dealership inspect them thoroughly..
Another thing.. i would recommend going for cross drilled rotors such a brembo or raybest... SUVS are heavy and rotors do get very hot... and factory Rotors r not cross drilled which dissipates heat much better and brake fairly better as well.
plus they r very cheap on ebay... compared to factory ones. u can even go for performance brake pads but getting a good rotor would help alot.
This is just my opinion.

I heard that cross drilled rotors actually eats up pads faster.

noway.. they don't.. they have better airflow which makes them run cooler reducing breakwear which obviously results in less brake dust.
Every racing/performance car comes with cross drilled rotors. Lots of premier Car companies such as porsche is using them right from factory. Give another few years u would see them OEM on lexus as well.

Default yeah...

At least you got to 30k...im at 13k and I sound like a big rig when I stop. Ok, not that bad...but they sure are loud. Im not sure if they are dirty or what but its pretty annoying.

does anyone share this affliction? Id love to hear any suggestions or home fixes.

Might be time for an inspection.

The pads tend to rust where they ride in the caliper. This can be a cause of squeel. You might have the pads removed, cleaned, then lightly lubricate the caliper contact points and the pad shims with high temp caliper grease and reinstalled. You should have plenty of pad surface left.

Additionally, uneven wear on the rotor surface will contribute to squeel. If the rotor is grooved, a consideration would be to have the rotor resurfaced. Lexus resurfaces the rotors on the car with a rotor turning machine. Locate a local shop that uses one or have a dealer look into it..
