Default Sat radio volume low

This has been mentioned on other Lexus model forums, but for those who have installed either the XM or Sirius kit (either LX or ES) is the sound on the SAT a bit lower than FM or CD? Some say this is normal and some say they hear no difference.

I installed the 05 LX kit (XM kit 0120) in my 05 GX.

The quality of sound is good, but I have to increase the volume quite a bit to get it where I want it to be. Otherwise it works perfectly.

I have the Sirius kit in my 05 GX and I have the same issue. I find I have to turn it up about 10 higher than the same volume for other sources.

peterh...if you read your directions that came with the unit, there is a way to get into the system and turn up the volume on the unit instead of having to crank the radio volume. I found that I had to crank the radio volume to close to 40 to hear the XM. If I forgot to turn down the unit prior to switching to the CD or FM, it would blow my ears.

I was actually looking for somewhere to increase the output volume on the SAT unit, but did not see anywhere. Can you provide me more details? Is there some manual control on the unit itself? Is it somewhere in the setup on the nav screen?

Thank you!

This is nonsense. The Sirius unit is sealed from the factory. There are no adjustments to be made on the Sirius satellite receiver itself nor in the dashboard head unit.

He said XM from what I read...I misread your post and thought that you had the VAIS unit. I don't think that we have the same unit. However, to turn up the volume in the SLX XM unit I go the Audio function of the NAV Unit.

2) Press 'SCAN' button 8 times to enter into input mode
3) Activate 'SCAN' on your head unit.
4) Use scroll up or down to increase volume from 01 to 31.
5) Deactivate 'SCAN" function
6) Press 'SCAN' 8 times in a row to exit.

I have the XM OEM Lexus LX kit - not the Vaistech kit. Maybe the vaistech kit would have been a better way to go...

Maybe a quick call to the dealer for a possible way to get into a similar function?

I do recall an XM tab in the service menu of the Nav system, but I did not go into it. I wonder if anyone has noticed any such option in the service menu. I have a Sirius kit in my 03 BMW 330i and the sound quality is much better than what I have in my GX; I do not have to adjust the volume in the BMW.
