2003 Gx 470
GX470 with about 65,000 miles without any indications stalled. Got the suv towed to the local dealership. the dealers claims that the car got overheated and the radiator and head gasket needs to be changed. although lexus has the 7/70000 warranty they will not cover because of non original hose clamps used. I authorized the change of radiator & head gasket after 14 days the dealer calls back saying that the engine is damaged and i need to replace the engine.I even authorized replacing engine job and now the dealer calls again after another 14 days saying i need to replace more parts. The total cost for all the repair stands at over $13,000 with parts and labor. I don't undersatnd why the dealer is coming every 14 days asking for more work to be done? is this kind of damage rotuine for a car like lexus? The car is still at the dealership. What are my options? Please help.

If you had it serviced by someone else at one point and they replaced the hose clamp (point of failure), than you need to pay them a visit. I can understand why Lexus is washing their hands of it, but if anyone is to blame, it is the service point which replaced that clamp. You could probably have Lexus give you a summary of the costs and what caused it, and than take that info back to them. With all said, it would probably go to court. I have chased down a similar problem for a friend, and the garage at fault paid for some but not all the damages.

yikes, reading this story makes me really want to take my lexus ONLY to the dealer for any problems.
I'm a newbie here and was wondering does that apply to oil changes also? or oil changes can be done at a local shop?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
